Deacons

Deacons are members of Second Pres. ordained to serve in the ministry of caring specifically for those who are members of the congregation. The office of Deacon comes from Acts 6, where deacons were charged to minister in service. The Board of Deacons, which numbers 28 members, is ordained to serve in three year terms.

The Deacons are engaged in the following ministries:

  • Preparing for monthly Communion
  • Overseeing the Flower Ministry
  • Sponsoring Blood Drives through our Parish Nurses in cooperation with the Red Cross
  • Overseeing the Bus Ministry, sponsoring an annual 50th Wedding Anniversary Dinner
  • Supporting New Baby Care
  • Conducting a Ministry of Birthday/"How Are You?" calling
  • Parish Nurses
  • Bridging with "Bloomington/Normal "Faith In Action" visitation program
  • Sponsoring the Prayer Quilt Ministry
  • Serving as the trustees for the Jessamine Withers Home fund for elderly women in need of on-going financial support.
