PRAYER QUILT MINISTRY

Second Presbyterian Church is a member of Prayers & Squares, an international, interfaith outreach ministry, that promotes prayer through the use of quilts. Their motto is: "It's not about the quilt; it's all about the prayers." More information may be found at http://www.prayerquilt.org.

Prayer quilts combine the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt. They are intended for those who are experiencing a physical, emotional, spiritual, or other life crisis. When needed, a quilt is brought before the congregation following church services to enable as many people as possible to tie a knot and say a silent prayer for the person who is receiving it. No money exchanges hands in return for a quilt.

The 2PC Prayer Quilt Team consists of two groups of volunteers who meet monthly to make the lap sized quilts. No sewing experience is required, and the groups are always in need of people to cut, iron, sew, or tie the quilts. The meeting times are:

  • 1st Tuesday of each month
    • 12:30-3:30 p.m., Room F205
    • For information about this group, contact Gayle Powell
  • Last Saturday of each month
    • 9:30 a.m.- noon, Room F205
    • For information about this group, contact Connie Williams

Quilts are made and supported by donations from members of the congregation. Fabric in good condition (100% cotton), perle cotton thread (#10), and monetary contributions may be turned in at the church office.
